Lonaconing Silk Mill

My friend, Tony Sweet, first introduced me to the Silk Mill in Lonaconing, Maryland, in about 2012. Since then, I've returned many times to photograph this strangely wonderful location. The last I heard, the property has slid further into disrepair and is no longer accessible to photographers.

Lonaconing Silk Mill is veritable time capsule from the 1950's! Workers were sent home one day in 1959 during a labor dispute and the mill never reopened. Personal belongings were left in lockers, tools were left on work benches, and machines remained set up, as workers believed they'd be back the next day. But the mill didn't reopen and they never went back to work.
