Send Groceries with SuperMarket23

One of the most direct ways to help is simply to put food and other basic necessities in someone’s home.

I have used SuperMarket23 successfully to send groceries and household supplies directly to friends in Cuba. You place and pay for the order from the United States, and SuperMarket23 delivers the items to the recipient’s home in Cuba.

Availability changes frequently, but the site generally offers food, beverages, personal-care products, cleaning supplies, household necessities, and other useful items.

How to do it

1. Go to [www.supermarket23.com](http://www.supermarket23.com).
2. Select English from the menu if the site initially appears in Spanish.
3. Create an account. This makes future orders easier and allows you to keep track of orders you have already placed.
4. Enter the information for the person you would like to help. You can use the recipient information provided below.
5. Browse the available products and add the items you would like to send to your cart.
6. Proceed to checkout and enter your payment information.
7. Submit your order and watch for confirmation from SuperMarket23.

The selection changes frequently, so don’t be surprised if something that was available previously is no longer listed. I generally look at what is available at the time and choose useful basics from there.

A Note About the Ordering Process

My experience with SuperMarket23 has been straightforward, although the process can require a little patience.

Most of the website can be viewed in English. When you reach the payment page, however, it may appear in Spanish.

The easiest way I’ve found to handle this is to use the translation feature built into your web browser. Look for the small Translate icon in the URL/address bar at the top of your browser window. Click it and choose English. The payment page should then be translated into English, making it much easier to complete your credit-card information and finish the order.

After submitting an order, you may see a status such as “Pending Verification.” This simply means that SuperMarket23 is reviewing the order. Don’t be concerned if you don’t receive final confirmation immediately. Verification may take a few minutes or sometimes considerably longer, depending on the time of day.

Once the order is approved, SuperMarket23 handles the delivery in Cuba.

What Should I Send?

There really isn’t a wrong answer. Food and basic household supplies that we take for granted can be extremely useful.

Depending on what is available, you might consider canned and non-perishable foods, rice, beans, cooking oil, coffee and other beverages, personal-care products, soap, toothpaste, cleaning supplies, and other basic household necessities.

When I first began using SuperMarket23, I avoided perishables such as eggs because I assumed they would somehow have to make the trip to Cuba. That isn’t how it works. SuperMarket23 finds those products in Cuba and delivers them locally, so you don’t have to worry about eggs or other perishables making a long journey.

I still tend to limit the amount of perishable food I send because refrigeration can be unreliable during prolonged power outages. Even so, eggs are an especially useful item. They are a good source of protein and are highly prized by the families receiving them.

For privacy reasons, I am not publishing Cuban national identification numbers on this website. If SuperMarket23 asks you for identification information that is not included above, please contact me and I will provide what you need privately.

A Few Tips

Creating an account makes repeat orders much easier.

Don’t be concerned if part of the checkout process appears in Spanish. Use the small Translate icon in your browser’s URL/address bar and select English.

Be patient with the verification process. An approved credit-card transaction does not necessarily mean SuperMarket23 has finished reviewing the order.

Because availability changes frequently, it is often better to choose from what is actually available rather than going to the site looking for one particular item.

And remember that even a relatively small order can make a meaningful difference.
