Infrared photography is something I've done since film days. It's an alternative way of seeing our world that has always appealed to me and I've made infrared photos with film and digital cameras for years.

Then, in 2019, when the iPhone 11 Pro Max came out, I began exploring ways to create infrared photos with the iPhone. Since then, I've created infrated photos with iPhones from the 11 through the iPhone 17 Pro Max and I've shared these techniques, accessories, and processing workflows with lots of photographers over the years.

If you’ve been curious about making infrared photographs with your iPhone, one of the first challenges is figuring out exactly what gear you need.

The process is wonderfully creative, but the accessories can be confusing. Which filter mount works? What infrared filter should you use? Do you need a special case? What about a tripod mount? And which apps are helpful once you’re ready to begin experimenting?

To help simplify the process, I’ve created a free iPhone Infrared Starter Kit Guide.

This is not a physical kit that I sell or ship. Rather, it’s a practical gear guide based on the accessories I use, have tested, and recommend for getting started with iPhone infrared photography. The guide covers the basic setup, including a filter mount, a 720nm infrared filter, a compatible iPhone case, tripod mount suggestions, app recommendations, and quick-start tips for making your first infrared images.
